About Marginalia
At a now defunct Art School in the early Aughts, a bunch of us got together and founded an event called In the Margins. The idea was to break down barriers between disciplines at our weird little school in the woods and spend an evening sharing what we were creating – in whatever form that took – outside our classes.
This website is that event in blog form.
The inspiration – In the Margins – was about art, design, writing, and photography, but Marginalia is more than that. It's about all the things we do and see and create that have been pushed to the side in the face of work, politics and, you know, all that – *gestures broadly to the state of things* – stuff happening in the world that is big and scary and seems inviolable when you're just one person trying to get by.
Other people will write about that mess. Other people are better at it.
Marginalia is for writing about everything else.
I want to be very clear about one thing – the above is not a statement of political neutrality. Make no mistake, this blog is run by a queer, progressive millennial who supports all the acronyms the Right is so goddamn afraid of. If you have a problem with that, maybe this isn't the blog for you.
A Statement on AI in Art, Writing, and Photography
The Marginalia Project does not support the use of generative AI in any artistic application. We will never feature AI "artists" on the blog and do not consent to the use of anything on this site as fodder for generative AI. We consider these tools to be nothing more than plagiarism machines and will not engage with them.
